Merry Christmas!!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Ahh, it's that time of year!

I am currently unemployed, so i have a lot of free time to look for jobs, run errands, make dinner and clean. Los will be off for the holidays, so atleast I have my honey to hang out with, It gets a lil boring to be by yourself, Although, i have my mom and dad - but thats got to be in small doses, I love them, but i have lilttle patience and I've been snappy since I lost my job.

Here are a few things we're gonna be doing over the upcoming days....

  • Go to the movies - We want to see The Wrestler and Milk. We have to find out where they are playing, i think they are "Ritz" type movies.
  • Go to Produce Junction, my new favorite store! Prepare for Christmas Dinner I am hosting for 14 people.
  • Go the the Della Polla's Christmas Party, woo hoo! We havent been in a few years, but it's always fun in there and the decorations looks cute.

  • Bowl! However, the friends we are going with is dating someone who has bowled like 17 perfect games in his life, shouldnt he be a pro? I once bowled a 6, I am a little better now, and it's fun.
  • Lisa's Christmas Party! YAY! It's always fun and we do alot to prepare for it!

So Happy Holidays Everyone!! Be thankful for your jobs and hopefully I will have one in 2009!

Happy Thanksgiving! Leftover Turkey

I better get on the eliptical...the eating season begins! Thanksgiving is Thursday - I can't believe it! I'm pretty picky about turkey dinners, i'm picky about how the stuffing is done, gravy kinda grosses me out unless I make it, but I like the actual turkey and mashed potatoes and veggies. I really like string bean casserole too. I will be some kind of broccoli and cheese thing to Los's parents house, where we just had turkey on Wednesday night...everything except the cauliflower! I think if I began to host Thanksgiving, I would make everything wednesday and have the delicious opened face sandwiches on Thursday, that's the best part! So anyway, if i can get my hands on some white meat - i think i'll make Hot Browns. The Hot Brown is some delicious concoction that The Brown Hotel in Louisville, KY came up with in the 1920's. It's toast, turkey, tomatoes, bornay sauce (cheezy bechamel) and yes, bacon. Los, please make extra bacon. So....what are you doing with your leftover turkey?

Thanks Septa

My train was 40 minutes late this morning. I had my winter coat on and and kind of a light sweater and before I left my house, I thought, maybe I should put another sweater on, thank god I did. I stood outside for about 25 mins, then decided to go in to the place where you buy tickets, which is the size of a shoebox, and that was standing room only, then, we were told to go to the other side of the track and wait even longer. I then got on the train with numb feet and had to stand on a ridicuolously packed train to move a little, then come to a complete standstill. I finally got to the city. I never thought i'd be so happy to see the subway train.

Whew

Oh my goodness, its been a long time. I think i finally caught my breath. I am in advertising and worked on "campaigns" i'm sure you can guess what they were. I worked late, then got home ate dinner, then back on the computer, so i really didnt really want to post a blog. So, it gets better..my company has declared chapter 11, like most companies these days, so we've known that for a while, then we went into chapter 7, what the hell is that? And this was announced when i could hardly get into the coference room because i was too bizzy. Well the company is still in business, and got on to Los's insurance, so thats good.
I am preparing for a lay off, so it is a lil scary BUT, i'm still working - I should know something in a week. AND, i was smart a put an emergency fund away. I saw something on the news about how you should have a 6 month nest egg away and I did it, but its tough to have to dip in, I'd rather buy a Louie! Any way, if i didnt have Los by my side and his encouraging comments, and beer on thursdays, i dont know what i would do. Any way, if you do have a job, please do your best to support yourself and your family! oh, and if you're hiring..wink, wink!hahhaaahh!!

On Hiatus

For all 2 of you that read this....my creative juices have not been flowing. I've been really busy with work, so if i get online, i'm working. I don't know whats going on with the celebrities, other people's lives via blogs, or christmas gift ideas. When i'm not working, Los and I are re-doing the basement, which is gonna be great when we're done, but the spackling and sanding is tedious and time consuming, then priming and painting, which will be started this weekend. So anyway - there's my quick update and GO PHILS!!!

Reality TV

My husband, Los, makes fun of the tv I watch. So last night, I was laying in bed bothering him while he was trying to get to sleep. Then we had the following conversation:

ME: Oh, I have a half hour til my show comes on.

LOS: What Show?

ME: Sunset Tan

LOS: What's that?

ME: It's a show about a tanning salon.

LOS: WHAT?!?!?!?!? You have GOT to be kidding me.

He almost fell out of bed. I guess that is why we watch tv in different rooms!

Oldie but Goodie

I was making a comment on Los's blog about Delaware County, I referred to it as The land of pizza, nifty fifty's, cheese steaks and isops. So I thought of this list I saw on an email a long time ago...it's hilarious. I could add some stuff and take some stuff away. It definitley leans toward the O'hara, Ridley,Interboro, Springfield crowd....Enchoy!
Someone who apparently knows Delco
Posted on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 2:37:54 PM by Tribune7

1. You've done extensive landscaping work during the summers.
2. You get annoyed when the snobs you work with in the King of Prussia area have no idea what a "twin home" or a "student loan" is.
3. It took you 5+ years to graduate from a state school (chances are you attended a satellite campus with the word DELCO in the title for the first two years).
4. You believe "bar crawls" a.k.a., a "Pike Hike" is something that is normal when you're well past your early twenties.
5. You constantly complain about going to the same bars and seeing the same people, yet when you venture somewhere "outside your realm", you huddle in the corner with your friends and talk about how everyone in this place is a tool/geek/spaz/etc.
6. You have a DUI.
7. Your father has mutliple DUI's.
8. Your source of "world news" is the DELCO TIMES....yes, that's right, the paper that had a snapshot from the Marple Newtown / Ridley field hockey game on the front cover the day after the Tsunami hit.
9. You know what a "day load" is....and better yet...... you know how to put one on and make it until 2 a.m.
10. You're sick and tired of explaining to people that you're not too old for Sea Isle. Don't apologize for the fact that you have no desire to go to Avalon and Stone Harbor and begin drinking at a "reasonable hour." I'll see you at the "No Shower" happy hour or catch you on the next Erin Express. If you don't what either of those are, you shouldn't be reading this list .
11. Not only does the following sentence make sense to you, it describes your favorite day of the year: "Today I'm taking the trolley from the Trophy Tavern down to the El to go to the parade." Say that sentence to one of those Episcopal/St. Joe's Prep/Malvern grads you work with and get ready for the most confused look you've ever seen.
12. You're a bartender (or you may be a 26 yr. old barBACK waiting for your "big break")
13. You have shared a bedroom at your parent's house with a sibling at a weird age (we'll ballpark this at 16 and above. very weird.)
14. You can't accept the fact that it's not normal to go out drinking hard on weeknights past the age of 22. If you don't believe me on this one, go to Maggie O'Neill's on any random Sunday night. Even though Monday is considered the busiest day of the week for normal people, this place looks like a god damn Mardi Gras.
15. The ratio of bars to bookstores in you neighborhood is 47:1.....not quite Bryn Mawr, huh?
16. You don't spend Thankgiving day with your family, but rather start drinking in the morning on your way to see your grade school football team play. Congratulations, you're not only an alcoholic, but your glory days go back to grade school. Even Springsteen wouldn't sing about this pathetic display.
17. You walked to high school. Tell this to the same person you talked to about reason #1 and watch their eyes cross as they squeeze the keys to their Saab.
18. You have no idea what's at the end of the Blue Route (does it even end?)
19. While some refer to traveling as "backpacking through Europe", your idea is more along the lines of going to Cancun about a decade to late when you're 27 and hanging onto your youth by the skin of your teeth.
20. When describing someone else from Delco, you say their name, state that you know them, say they're a good guy/girl, and then say their high school or the parish they're from. example, "yeah, John Doe, he's a good guy, Bonner/St. Bernie's guy, coaches football for (fill in Delco school here) and bartends at (fill in Delco bar here).
It's funny, I used to live in South Philly with BarbraPeapod, and alot of this stuff happens down there too. I always say delco is just an extention of Souffilly.

So, while i'm hangin out at my local bar this evening, after I consume my Zac's Burger (gotta go to the Eddystone location), I will do a shot in honor of Delco! And maybe have a late night cold isop.

The new table pic

Ahh, finally a picture of the new table and my lovely honey, with his fruity drink and pizza.

Didn't Fit.

So Los was ever so thoughtful and offered to buy me a table and chairs for outside on our deck. I was so happy! So our plan was to grocery shop, then take a ride down the tax free shopping state of delaware. Maybe even go to Total Wine to pick up stuff to make frosty drinks on a very hot day.
Well, we lucked out. The table I saw weeks ago was reduced to an even lower price. woo hoo! So we found a guy who worked there, he was really nice and went and got it out of the back. There were only like 3 left and there were alot of other people looking at it.

The guy brought it out, we got the last 4 director chairs and off we went to pay. We went out to the parking lot and we tried to get it in the car with the seats down, didnt fit. Then we tried to put it in the back seat, didnt fit. Then I said, why don't we take it out of the box. We did, didnt fit.

Our car is pretty big, too!

All we could think, was who could we call? Ray Ray lives too far, Kurt and Trish live close, but we know she had a college reunion or something going on. Then los called Nick and he didn't answer.

So, we decided it would be best that los would get my car. So first, I was going to keep the table top on the flatbed. Now we had taken it out of the box already so styrofoam is blowing all over the parking lot, I collected all the pieces, put it on the cart and stood in the parking space. Well, people started to get angry when they saw the good parking spot and there I was with a table top. So I decided to wheel it back through the parking lot and atleast sit on the bench in front of the store. I figured i could atleast people watch and get a tan.

The weather was strange saturday, it was sunny but rained a few times. So great, it started to rain. So I sat there on the bench with my table, sunglasses on, in the rain. All I could do was laugh. Then rain stopped and the sun was back out and i think i got a little tan. Atleast i dried fast.
So thankfully, after 45 mins. Los returned with my car. We loaded it in with no problem, but i had to hold the hatch back down with a rope for the 20 min ride home.

When i got in the car, i noticed we left the box on the flatbed...i said to los, "omg, i don't care, get in the car!!"

We passed the total wine store that we had planned to go to, but we were like oh well, that'll have to be another day. I knew we had beer and vodka at home, which i was realllly in the mood for after that fiasco.

But the table was easy to put together and looks really cute! Ugh, what a day! Needless to say, we sat on our new chairs and enjoyed yummy frosty vodka drinks and pizza! I will post pictures of the table later.

New Post! TV sux

Sorry, I haven't posted in a while! I will post some pics from the wedding in Brigantine this weekend, I just have to get around to it.

It's "Operation Organization" at my house this week, probably because there is NOTHING on TV. I've seen all the HGTV shows, and I haven't really seen anything that I want to DVR, with the exception of Diary of a Call girl on Showtime and some show about the Amish kids on Rumspringa - that's when the Amish let their kids go hang out at Hershey Park and smoke and drink. Hmm, the more I think about it, I can't wait to watch that show.

I watched season 1 of Californication on Sunday, which is a Showtime series too. It's awesome! Hank Moody is the man!
Anyway back to "Operation Organization" - I need a shoe organizer that works. Los has his shoes on a wooden cd rack, I swear, it's probably the best one, it doesnt collapse like the metal ones you buy at target, bb&b, etc. it's just too high. I just dont like seeing the shoes when I walk into my bedroom. Any suggestions on a good one that doesnt fall apart when you put a shoe on it?

Star Wars

Oh YAY! I did it, i found the pics on my broken camera! Yeah, it was an interesting day. Needless to say, we'll really have to think about going to another exhibit. First of all, the parking - there were a bunch of idiots running the garage. Then there was the problem with our tickets that we called ahead for, then the gross dude that was fighting with the security guards because He lost HIS kids. Whatta dummy. Other than that, here are some pictures from the exhibit.

Los and I got a new camera!!
I broke our old digital camera at the Star Wars Exhibit. We had a bad experience there, but i'm over it now, so maybe i'll post 'em later.

I can't believe I haven't posted anything about celebrity news. I figure there are enough sites for that, so instead, I will post 2 celebrity pics and tell me what you think. BTW, the first picture is Natalie Portman - the picture is a little fuzzy. The second picture is well, you know who.

Weekend stuff / BBQ

Since I never really update my blog, I just ramble on about my weekend....
Friday morning I got to wake up a little later because we refinanced, so the notary was coming at 8am. I worked out, drank coffee, watched the news - good stuff. It was pouring outside, I didn't mind though, because my lovely hubby was driving me into work. So we ran to the car and noticed the seat was soaking wet, then I realized Los left the moonroof open all night. There was about 3 inches of water in the cup holder. We wiped everything up and off to work with a wet butt.
I ended up catching an early train home. I know that Los goes to his mom's house on Fridays to drop off his shirts to be laundered, pressed and returned by saturday, pick up his twenty bucks, and eat something (yea, she does all that, along with mowing the lawn). So anyway, I called to let los know the I got the early train and if he could pick me up at 5:20-5:25. I said it was ok if he was late because the train was late, but for some reason the train ended up being early, wierd. So I arrived at the station at 5:18, oh yea, it was still raining, but I stood there and read my magazine. There was a group of older women across the street, with a sign that said "Women in black", whatever the heck that means, I'm sure they were laughing at me. So I waited. Then the next train came, the one that I was orignally supposed to be on, and still no Los. Now, I couldn't get mad beause it was my own fault for being early. So I waited for about a half hour in the rain, good times. So I finaly get in the car, trying to smile, and Los tells me he was eating McDonalds and corn on the cob and didn't leave til 530. Obviously, I was thinking, you were you in a warm house feedin your corn hole, while I was standing in the rain?!?!? After I jokingly yelled, we bothe started laughing.

So I calmed down, warmed up, and got ready for the Beef & Beer we were going to. Our friends came over and Los decided to drive. We were on our way down Mac Dade Blvd, and someone was yelling over to us, so Ray-Ray rolled down the window down and the guy was like, "Hey your trunk is open!" I think Los wanted to turn his car into a fishbowl or something. Yes, it was still raining.

So we went to the Beef&Beer at Briarcliff Hall which was once home to the ECW (yeah, thats rasslin) It was given by the Upper Darby police dept for Karl's friend Arty. He had his colon removed due to cancer. I'm gonna guess Arty does not read my blog, but Get Well!!! You're in my prayers! The party was fun. It was kinda like an Interboro reunion, but I knew enough people to hang out with and talk to while Karl was seeing old friends. I also have to throw in, that it was the best beef and beer food I ever had. I know cause I ate two plates of it. They had roast beef, obviously, really good meatballs, baked ziti and the lemon chicken and chicken marsala were awesome!

They had a chinese auction and fiddy fiddy's (that's south philly for fifty fifty). I started to put my tix in the bags for the nice baskets of stuff they had and realized I put the "keep this coupon" in the bags - no big deal cause the numbers match up, right? Well somehow, i had some of Los's and put some of his "keep" coupons in..anyway, i screwed up the whole thing. It didn't matter though, cause it was going to a good cause.

So Saturday, Los and I went to Produce Junction. Boy, is that place fantastic or what? The parking lot is a complete nightmare, but it's totally worth it. I got flowers and herbs for outside for $16 and a ton of fresh veggies for about $20. Last week, I bought my sister a dozen red gorgeous roses for $8.

So with all the delicious produce we decided to make shish kabobs. Probably about 5 mins into cooking time and 2 sips into los's fruity frozen drink, los realized the gas was finally gone. It was 630ish, so I figured the propane place was closed, I quick thought CHARCOAL! So Los ran out and got some and we lit it and YAY Fire! I'm sold on grilled corn too. After we grilled it, then peeled, I stuck it back on the grill in tin foil with butter and old bay! YUM!

We ended up having drinks and a dance party in the basement. We listened to 2 Stones cds and I wrote down my favorite songs. I think Some Girls turned out to be my favorite.
Anyway, I hope you had a great weekend! I'll try and update more often! I can't believe it's Memorial Day next weekend! You better set your DVR for Living Lohan and the Denise Richards Reality Shows! I can't wait for the Sex and the City movie too!!

I just flew back from KY, and boy are my arms killin me!

Probably from riding the mechanical bull!

Ahhh, it's good to be home! I was awake at 345am and still awake, so I don't have too much energy to write. I will however, include some pics I got while visiting http://babspeapod.blogspot.com/ in KY for the Derby! I wan $11 bucks, but oh well, that paid for one of the many mint juleps I had. Los and I will figure out the video on here at some point so you can see me fly off the bull.

Birthday Pics!

So the birthday celebration was fun! Lots of drinking and carrying on. I think everyone had a good time, I sure did! Thank you Everyone for all the nice gifts too! Honey, thanks for cleaning up the mess!

This pic is Friday night. Which one of these things is not like the other? This was a really good idea for a photo at the time.
Later on that evening, we sat around the fire...that's los's, barbrapeapod and my feet.
I've got my Ugg boots on, Sneakers are comfy, but my feet are on vacation when I have them on!

Then the party was on Saturday and I hired a bartender, Drew, who I work with. He made some awesome drinks and shots! It's a headless pic, but i had to get a picture of his short tie.

I liked my outfit, but a few people thought i had a puffy shirt on. I thought I looked like pirate.

The batteries in my camera died, so i didn't get too many pictures.
I hope you enjoy!

Places to eat in delco.

So Los and I have not been to the supermarket in a while, so its kinda slim pickins round here. Well, atleast there is a large containter of cheese balls, and a Brita filter in my snack cabinet.
So we've kinda been on a restaurant tour. We were off on Good Friday. So we started out by going to breakfast the The Countryside Deli in Swarthmore, http://countrysidemkt.tripod.com/
No meat for us, cause it was Good Friday, so I had a cheese omelette, and they had fantastic potatos, i normally don't even eat the potatoes. The place is really cute, and they have a great coffee selection.
So we went to Olidators (National Wholesale Liquidators) that's where the cheeseballs came from, c'mon, how can you pass them up? By that time we were hungry again. So I said, "How bout ISOP from Double Decker?" Now these are not the usual In side out pizza, because they are fried! I don't get these too often, obviously cause they're fattening, but hey, every once in a while, right? So when you eat the part with no cheese or sauce, it's still delicious cause it's fried bread, yum! I don't have a link to that, but for those of you locals round here, it's right in the center of Ridley park, by the train station.

So, Saturday, wake up, eat second ISOP for breakfast and realize, that we still don't have any food, so I suggest going to the new Thai place up the street. Buppha Thai. I thought it was delicious. It was not that cheap, but it's a BYOB, which is always makes it cheaper. Oh and clean too!

Then, Happy Easter! Sunday we went to Easter Brunch with My mom and dad, and my sister's family. It was really nice, They had an omelette station, which is always delicious. Oh, this was called Meridiths in Berwyn, now I dont think that's delco, but it's not that far.http://www.meridiths.com/.

So, that was my tour of the restaurants I ate at this weekend! A few other places we love is Nora Lee's cafe, another good place we love. It's byob and a cajun restaurant. The soup and bread is delicious. There's usually no need to get an entree.

Ahh, then there is the ol Frontier Salon. Los told me that the beer selection is excellent. We were there on our St. Patrick's Day bar tour that I mentioned in my previous post. I suggest you check out the website, they have some pretty funny pictures of the wierd stuff in there.
Happy Dining in Delco! I'll mention more as I go out to eat!

Bar Tour!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day! It's on a Monday, which is stinky, but that's why it was celebrated yesterday. I know in Lisa's neighborhood in South Philly, it's a month long celebration. They've got some Irish pride down there. I think its safe to assume that there is a shamrock on every door or window.

I took my camera with me yesterday to document the tour and I will admit there are some funny things at the fine establishments here in Delco.

First of all, there is a blarney bus, yellow school buses that go from bar to bar, but we just get on the Septa bus. It's two bucks, and is on the same route. So, our first bar was Dino's, it used to be Julies, and Los knew the bartender, I think he knows the owners too.

Pictured above is Kimmy and Alissa, who we spent most of the day with. Los and I took the bus to this bar and met them there. Kurt came and met us, so we got a ride to the next bar. As soon as we got into his car, we heard German Polka music, so we listened to it til we got the next bar. We went into Haggarty's, but it was mobbed, so we walked over to RP McMurphy's, we got a beer but didn't stay long, that was also mobbed with 21 year olds.

Our next trip was to The Frontier Saloon. Now that's quite a place. The popcorn machine was not working, but there were other things to see, as i will show you. Pictured above, is the sign, Draft Beer to go...WHAT?!?!? Do they give you a pitcher?

Also, at The Frontier Saloon, there's the Native American Girl picture that is lit up and every 15 minutes, get this, the scarf comes off and she's naked!! That's probably what gets their regulars coming back.

Oh and yes, there are animals on the roof. That's the horse, but there's a bull and something else on the other side.

Los and his brother Kurt at the first bar. And below, Nifty Fifty's. It was across the street from the bus stop.

Nice, a FORTY! This was on top of the shuffle bowl game, I'm not sure what this ancient piece of technology this is.

This also at the frontier, a condom machine in the ladies room! The first one is a bikini condom which is made slimmer for a tighter fit, the second in the rough rider, and the last one is the French Freedom Tickler, it's designed to tickle your fancy!

Brandon came to meet us....I got to tell him what I said, "You gotta eat your bread crust, It'll make your eyes curly and your hair blue".

Hmmm, something else questionable, An ape selling cheese steaks?

We ended up on the blarney bus, it happend to stop at the septa bus stop and they let us on.

We ended up at Della Polla's, always the favorite bar, and not too crowded. Karl, Kimmy and Brandon played pool. We then headed to the Milmont aka the Milmonster. I didn't get any pictures there, all i know is that I was chowing down on all the ham on the buffet table, I got into some soft pretzels too. Hope you enjoyed my tour of Delco. Did anyone do anything St. Patricks Day celebrating this weekend?
